Paper Plane, 2018
Live performance, 30Min
Performers: Aki Nakamura, Auriane Jaillet, Hitoshi Yamauchi and Manami Nagahari
The performance piece, “Paper Plane” is a silent show which is based on a real story of a Japanese female worker who escaped from Japan to Berlin due to abuse of power and sexual harassment. Just few years before a 24 years old female employee who worked in the same company killed herself because of suffering from stress and the terrible working situation.
In working situations, all behaviours and responses to bosses and clients are adopted from older generations and resemble a strictly choreographed Japanese theatre.
Therefore the silent performance sets these two elements in parallel: The habitual acts of professional life are combined with fragments of classic “Nou” theatre in order to raise the question if social behaviour might be in fact as performative as theatre.
